After 4 years of Dr. Edema’s work with young Africans in the diaspora, He noticed that a pattern began to emerge.
It was evident to Him that quite a number of young Africans who traveled to Europe for the purpose of education had missed out on some critical components in their life’s journey.
Although He was not bewildered by these; the degree of their cumulative impact became a huge concern that needed to be fixed.
Some of the concerns were as follows:
- Many students didn’t have a grasp of why they were on specific career paths.
- Peer pressure was a cardinal cause for those who got into trouble with the Law
- Depression and suicidal tendencies had become more prevalent
- The rate of substance abuse and addition was alarming- some got expelled and deported for this
- Identity crisis spurred by western influence left many confused
- In comparison to their colleges in the west, it was clear that the education system had produced students who weren’t in touch with current realities and future trends

In July 2016 on his first trip back to Africa, He felt a nudge to identify the major problems teens in Africa faced in a bid to identify possible solutions.
Since 2016, Dr. Edema and his partners have traveled from the schools in Benin City to corridors of the World Bank in Washington D.C; running different test programs with over a thousand teens, schools, and parents to identify the root cause of these problems in a bid to discover a lasting solution which will help transform the African child from the within while preparing them for the future.
Maximum Living Academy is the product of the quest.
